”Our stunt team... I mean, there's stuff that they do that I would not do for any amount of money. Every actor wants to go in front of a talk show and say how they did their own stunts, and the reality is, these people are professionals. They've been training their whole lives; they train every single day. I would be disrespecting their efforts if I said that I did all my own stunts, 'cause this is just not true.”
That is a funny quote from Simu Liu, because later in the documentary, he was quite excited about a wire stunt that he hadn't initially planned doing himself, and somehow convinced everyone on set that his stuntman should get out of the harness, so that he could get in and do the stunt himself. Granted, Liu could have just been BS'ing and embellishing his way through the documentary at this point, because he was clearly the one who had to say the most (and wanted to speak about it all the time) about the film and how much it meant to him. It's almost like he was the host of this hour – a camera was always on him as soon as he finished a scene, waiting for a quick comment or joke about what he just went through or worked on. It makes this episode exciting to watch, as it's anchored by the most charming person on set.
Not to mention that SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS is a martial arts film, so there were a lot of instances when the actors were training, rehearsing, and filming the fight scenes, almost turning this hour from a Marvel film behind-the-scenes special to a documentary on how to make a martial arts film. That automatically makes it a more interesting making-of special to watch than the previous entries of the series.
