This is one of the early roles in the career of Jessica Chastain, and she immediately plays a rape victim. That's quite a way to announce yourself on the Hollywood stage by playing messed-up characters with violent pasts. It's also a way to remind the audience once more that VERONICA MARS isn't your usual high school-centric drama with characters doing shady business on the side. It's a show with full-blown bleak storytelling, with this episode going into the idea of Veronica being the daughter of Jake Kane (never outright mentioned, but implied via Lianne and Jake's high school past, and the way Veronica reacted to Keith's words about raising another man's child), as well as Sarah's backstory. You would normally find such storytelling on LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT, but here it was part of a UPN show.
The side plot of Weevil and Logan was entertaining, thanks to the fact that the writers figured out a way to give Weevil a storyline and Logan a way to be a positive character in this show, after he began his time on the show as something of an antagonistic character. After the abuse he received at the hands of his father in the previous episode, it's now about him enjoying his time with Weevil. Who knows, maybe the potentially most villainous characters of the show turn out to be best friends by scheming their way through high school and making asshole teachers pay for their bully-ish behavior. Although I would like to know how the two managed to get the car around the flagpole. And if the two will remain friends, so that the ultimate reveal of who really killed Lilly Kane is going to break that friendship apart when either Logan or Weevil finds out that the other may have been involved in her death.
