I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER: If Only Dogs Could Talk

Season 1, Episode 7
Date of release: November 5, 2021 (Amazon Prime)

Written by: Chaconne Martin-Berkowicz
Directed by: Logan Kibens

”You look so beautiful right now.”

“That's 'cause it's me.”

This episode felt like it had elements from the season finale, but halfway into writing it, the writers realized this was only the seventh episode, and they still had one more remaining. Pretending like the whole Clara thing was the climax, and everything is peachy fine after her death, killed the momentum of the suspense in the story, with the entire middle part being one big party that felt like the one fateful night last summer, where everything was still good before crap hit the fan again. I guess that was the intention of this hour – making the surviving characters feel like they are safe before the killer returns and finishes everyone off. But then Alison had to be a blabbermouth, and her mother had to return to the fold, which are both plot devices you would write when creating season finale cliffhanger endings.

The only story that still is of interest to be is the identity theft, with Alison telling Dylan the truth, and Margot mentioning the scars that could also reveal Alison's secret – if Margot doesn't already suspect it, because I don't really know what else to make out of the final scene than the writers planning the reveal of Alison's biggest secret. If she already told the love of her life, chances are the whole town will know a day or two later (except of course Dylan gets killed before he can meet with the chief of police). Alison taking on Lennon's identity is a plot that never made a lot of sense to me, so I am hoping that all of the lying will blow up right in her face (and Bruce's, while we're at it), as a punishment for making me sit through this unnecessary subplot.

And once more, I cannot believe that Dylan never knew that Lennon was actually Alison. The one woman he always loved, and he couldn't even tell which twin is which – something that should have been possible for him to do after hanging out with both twins for years. After a while, you get to see the nuances and differences between the twins. But, who knows, maybe Dylan wasn't able to because he always had his screws loose, which is why he has been the killer all this time. Imagine killing your friends for them killing the love of your life, just to find out that the love of your life is still alive, and you just had sex with her? Yeah, that should fry Dylan's brain in the next episode.

The story could have ended right here. But this is not the final episode.
