”That's the fault of the police? That's bullshit.”
“Oh yeah? How so?”
“The police don't just kill people.”
“Yeah, right.”
If the police say that the police don't kill people, the police must be right.
Naah. We all know that the police like to regularly trip on power, and with that comes abuse and violence from police officers against citizens who may not have committed any crimes. It's not just a problem in the United States, with cops not giving a damn when it comes to black people, but it's also an issue in France, where police like to punch immigrants on an hourly basis. I can see that HPI would have loved to make an issue out of that real-life fact, but because crime procedurals on television are also propaganda for police, not even this show could get into the notion of police officers and inspectors being too violent on the job.
The murder case of the week, at least, had some emotional value to offer, with the victim being something of a bad guy by swindling women out of their money, but who was about to change for the better. It would have been a better episode if the story had focused on the other victims a bit more – the women who were robbed of their money and their love, and the children who also suffered emotionally, having to watch their mothers' hearts get broken this way. Compared to them, Morgane at least gets a shot at fixing her heart, if the disappearance of her boyfriend 16 years ago is a lot more complex than just voluntarily dropping out of her life to not have to be a husband and a father. Season or series-long mystery story arc, here it comes...
